Councilman peter koo endorses sandra ung 市议员顾雅明 背书黄敏仪成接任者
On March 21st, sitting Councilmember Peter Koo, who is term limited, endorsed Sandra Ung to replace him as the representative of District 20. Councilman Koo and prominent small business owners gathered in the New World Mall to announce the endorsement. Peter Koo cited Sandra’s commitment to public service and years of experience in government as reasons for endorsing her.
Councilmember Koo said, "Small businesses are the backbone of our City. It is especially true in Flushing. During this unprecedented public health crisis, small businesses across the City are struggling just to stay afloat. Our small businesses are hurting because of the COVID-19 pandemic and are in desperate need of relief. The next Council Member must be someone who truly understands the value of small businesses and is willing to do everything he or she can to help. Therefore, after months of serious consideration and observation, I am endorsing Sandra for City Council.”
Councilmember Koo urged voters to make use of Ranked Choice Voting. Historically, District 20 has low voter turnout in primary elections. Community leaders, including Peter Koo and Sandra Ung, have expressed their hopes that RCV will help convince more voters to cast their ballots in the June 22nd primary.
Sandra Ung said, “I am honored to receive Councilmember Koo's endorsement, and I look forward to working with him to support our local small businesses. If elected, I will prioritize increasing outreach by the city government to small businesses, which have been severely impacted by the pandemic.”
Sandra Ung added, “I grew up in this district and have lived here for most of my life. I’m running for office because I want to help my neighbors and improve the quality of life for local residents. If elected, my Council office will also be a community hub - I'll bring legal and business seminars to the community, and I will prioritize constituent services. If you have any questions or problems navigating the government bureaucracy, my office will be your advocate in City Hall.”
Alongside Peter Koo’s endorsement, Sandra has been endorsed by Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senator Toby Stavisky, State Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz and Councilmembers Rivera and Constantinides.
She has also been endorsed by virtually every labor union that has made endorsements in the race, including UFT, NYSNA, 32BJ SEIU, the New York City Central Labor Council AFL-CIO, CWA, DC 37, HTC, and Teamsters Local 831.
